This 1858 Remington New Model Army revolver has been converted to .45 Colt (Long Colt) with a five shot Kirst conversion cylinder without loading gate. This pistol qualifies as a modern firearm and must ship to an FFL dealer. The frame has been ported to allow loading of cartridges. A period correct L-shaped style ejector rod has been added to the right side of the frame and rests in a notch cut in the loading lever. The factory grips have been replaced with wider custom made grips for a man with large hands. This revolver has been further customized by nickel plating the brass triggerguard. All of the factory markings have been removed and this pistol has been rust blued. The bore is bright, clean, and has been well maintained. It was manufactured by Aldo Uberti & Co. The 8" octagon barrel is fitted with a dovetailed steel blade front sight. The notch in the center of the frame serves as the rear sight. All factory markings have been removed from the barrel and frame. The walnut grips are a custom replacement, mounted with a blued steel screw, through brass escutcheons. The grips are wide and overhang the frame for a comfortable grip. The brass triggerguard has been nickel plated. The Remington trigger is wide and comfortable. The only marking found on the gun is 45 stamped on the left side of the frame near the barrel forcing cone. The barrel, frame, and cylinder have all been rust blued.

The five shot Kirst conversion cylinder has been modified with a bushing that allows the revolver to be fired multiple times without fowling and locking up on the cylinder pin. Two set screws have been added to the bottom of the conversion ring to keep it from rotating when the cylinder is cocked. The conversion ring is fitted with a rebounding firing pin that is struck by the percussion hammer nose. This model does not have a loading gate on the backing ring, and the frame is ported to allow the loading and unloading of cartridges. Many original Remington revolvers were converted this way in the 1870's. The loading lever must be lowered half-way to release the L-shaped ejector. Turn the ejector rod 90 degrees to allow it to slide forward and remove spent cartridges. The rod is not spring loaded and must be worked manually, unlike a Colt Peacemaker.
