Model 1875 No. 3 2nd Model Smith & Wesson
Schofield Army Revolver
caliber .45 Colt, 5" barrel, walnut,
near-new, by A. Uberti
Built by A. Uberti of Italy, this revolver is chambered in .45 Colt and has a 5” barrel. Only having seen limited use the gun is in near-new condition and is being offered with the factory carton. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. This revolver weighs 2.5 pounds.
This revolver breaks open to reload, with the hammer in the half-cock position the latch can be moved backwards allowing the barrel to tip forward. While executing this process the plunger in the center of the cylinder raises the spent cartridges from their chambers and allows them to be easily discarded, then new shells can be inserted. This was the feature that made the gun so popular in cavalry circles, it did not require single emptying and loading like the Colt revolvers, instead the entire cylinder could be dumped and reloaded at once.
Our top view of the revolver shows the sighting groove of the long rib on top of the barrel. The front sight is a silver blade that is captured within this groove, the rear sight is a notch in the knurled latch of the action. At the rear the color case hardened hammer latch of the break action can be seen. A U.S. stamp appears on the bottom strap of the revolver under the grips, as does the serial number. Higher up on the gun a few other proof marks can be found, but they are all small and out of the way, not detracting from the look of the gun.
The left side of the barrel is marked 45 Colt and below it the markings *Schofield's Pats June 20th 71. Apr 22nd 73* can be seen. The right side of the barrel is marked Taylor's & Co. Winchester VA - A.Uberti Italy. Only slightly used, the cylinder has begun to develop a line at the rear from being turned. This is the only wear on the gun and it is in otherwise new condition. Note the inspector’s marks and date 1877 in the rear of the walnut grip, a nice addition to this classic reproduction revolver.
This revolver is offered in near-new condition and appears unfired. It will be a joy to shoot at your next Cowboy Action event.
