Model 1860 Henry Carbine,
caliber .44-40 WCF, 22" barrel,
Military sling swivels, brass frame,
white finish, used, by Aldo Uberti
This military model features a 22" barrel, and side mounted sling swivels, it does not have the military cartouche markings. The brass frame has a mellow brass tone. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Weight is a modest 8.9 pounds, unloaded. The shorter barrel lowers the total magazine capacity, but also decreases the muzzle weight of the gun. Trigger reach is 13-1/4" to fit today's average size shooter. We have this nice used rifle on display, ready for same day shipment on receipt of your funds and signed copy of favorite dealer's FFL license.
The 22" full octagon blued barrel is fitted with the classic Model 1860 Henry style elevator rear sight, calibrated and marked to 900 yards, and nickel silver blade front sight. The white finished barrel has a few small scattered brown speckles on the muzzle section. The top flat of the barrel is marked HENRY'S PATENT OCT 16 1860 The left side flat is marked UBERTI U.S.A., LAKEVILLE CT / MADE IN ITALY BY A. UBERTI. The barrel is marked CAL .44-40 just behind the rear sight. The left side of the barrel is fitted with a sling swivel. A rear swivel is fitted to the left side of the buttstock. No sling is included with this carbine.
The attractive walnut stock is finished to a rich reddish brown walnut color. The color matches the classic reddish walnut brown found on antique examples. The bottom view shows the brass cartridge lifter. The manual lever latch works perfectly. Rotate it one quarter turn, to release the lever for use. The proof marks are partially covered by the lever. The lever works smoothly, and locks up tight. The side view shows the brass action. The trigger release is smooth and light, with only a small motion required. Henry rifles were often engraved, and the brass sides of the action are an ideal canvas for the engraver's art.
Notice that the Henry carbine is not fitted with a wooden forend, but has a slotted shroud that serves as a magazine tube, instead. This is a unique feature of the Henry rifle. Pull the brass button of the cartridge follower to the muzzle end, until it unlocks the rotating octagon muzzle end. Rotate the muzzle end, and gently insert your cartridges into the magazine shroud. Rotate the muzzle and and guide the spring onto the round. We do not recommend dropping the magazine spring on loaded ammunition.
The famous Henry Lever Action Rifle was the first successful rifle, made by what would later become the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. This gun has lived from the beginning to the end of the fabulous adventure that was the winning of the West. Its firepower, notable even by today's standards, made this an exceptional weapon.
