The polished and blued barrels are 30" long, not including the breech plugs. The rib is fitted with a silver bead front sight. The barrel bluing has been very well maintained and has only a few small marks in the finish. Both bores are bright and have been well maintained. The right bore measures .712" at the muzzle, and the left barrel has an improved cylinder choke that measures .702" the muzzle. Although the breech is marked 12 gauge, we find this shotgun will work best with 13 gauge wads and cards, and either lead, or bismuth shot. Never use steel shot in this muzzleloading shotgun. For use with a choked bore our wad manufacturer recommends a 13 gauge over powder card passed through on its side, a 14 gauge fiber wad, and a standard 13 gauge overshot card which should be flexible enough to pass through the choke. The right hand breech of this shotgun is stamped Ditta Davide Pedersoli Gardone V.I. Brescia Italy Made In Italy. The left hand barrel is marked Richland Arms Co. Blissfield Mich. 12 GA along with the black powder warnings, proof marks, and serial number.
The straight grip is checkered, and the walnut stock is fitted with a brown rubber recoil pad. The rubber recoil pad will make it comfortable with full loads. The stock was refinished and has random runs in the gloss finish, along with many handling marks. The long tang is color case hardened, and factory engraved. The trigger plate is engraved and color case hardened, while the triggerguard with long grip rail is blued. The forend has a single key that retains the barrel. The key allows for quick disassembly for cleaning. Simply withdraw the ramrod, press out the key with firm thumb pressure, and lift the muzzle end, to dismount the barrels for easy cleaning. The ramrod is fitted with a brass shotgun style loading tip, but no threaded tip to accept cleaning and loading accessories. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-36-10 to service this double barrel shotgun. No cheekpiece is carved, making this shotgun equally handy for right or left hand shooters.
The factory nipples are blued steel 1/4-28 for No. 11 percussion caps. When cleaning at the end of the day remove the nipples, using our #NW-120 nipple wrench, and immerse the breech end in a bucket of hot soapy water. Push the air out, and draw the water in, as you pump the ramrod the full length of each barrel, a few times. Change the water, and the patch. When the patch comes out clean, you are ready to wipe the bores dry, using a patch wetted with water displacing oil.
The Pedersoli shotgun locks are case colored and and the hammers are engraved. Both locks are perfect inside, with strong springs, secure half-cock notches, and full cock notches that release smoothly with normal trigger finger pressure. Davide Pedersoli double shotguns use standard 1/4-28 nipples. Apply a tiny amount of Birchwood Casey's Choke Tube Lube, or any good anti-seize grease, to the nipple threads before installation.
