The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The bore is rifled with a 1:48 twist to shoot patched round balls or conicals. The 32" long 15/16" octagon barrel is fitted with a long rear sight that is screw adjustable for elevation. The front sight is a nickel silver blade with a blued iron base. The barrel and tang have a brown cerakote finish, with a few spots that have worn bright, mostly around the powder drum from cap flash. The left oblique barrel flat is marked with the safety warnings. The right oblique flat is marked with the factory information and caliber.
This rifle is stocked in beech factory finished to look like walnut with a semi-gloss sheen. The stock has many handling marks from field use. The nickel silver capbox has a cam over center lid and opens and closes securely. The brass furniture has the same brown cerakote finish as the barrel. The finish has worn off around the sharp edges of the furniture. The triggerguard has a wide bow to accept the double lever double set triggers. The triggerguard is mounted with blued screws. The short tang anchors the hooked breech and is finished to match the barrel. Two steel keys retain the .50 caliber barrel. Remove the ramrod, withdraw the keys, and the barrel will lift out for easy cleaning. Clean it with hot soapy water, dry, oil, and re-assemble. The wooden ramrod is fitted with a brass tip on the hidden end that is threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. A .50 caliber jag tip is pinned on the forward end of the ramrod. A brown cerakote finished brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the stock. The raised beaver tail cheekpiece is shaped for a right hand shooter. The two lock bolts pass through blued steel waster style sideplates.
The color case hardened percussion lock has a fly detent in the tumbler, to allow the use of the double set triggers. The lock features a tiny internal screw, cleverly arranged to adjust sear engagement in the full cock notch. A stainless steel nipple for musket caps is fitted in the powder drum. Order our #CVA-S if you require a nipple for No. 11 percussion caps. The double lever double set triggers are adjustable for both trigger release and backlash. The triggers are currently adjusted to fire from the set, or unset position. You can set the triggers before, or after cocking the lock. Unset the front trigger requires firm pressure. Once the rear trigger is set the front trigger is very light.
