The 8-3/4" octagon-round barrel has a 3-3/4" tapered octagon breech with a single wedding band to round. The .54 caliber smoothbore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is fitted with a brass front sight soldered directly behind the muzzle. No rear sight is fitted on this point and shoot pistol. The barrel exterior is finished to a silvery-brown patina and is unmarked. A single screw passes through the flared tang of the breech plug to engage the trigger plate below. Two small iron pins retain the barrel to the forearm.
The curly maple stock has a slender grip fitted with a brass buttcap. All of the brass furniture has a dark patina finish. The stock is shaped with graceful slender proportions. The triggerguard is mounted by pins and the acorn finial found at the front is neatly engraved. The slender 5/16" diameter ramrod is not fitted with any tips. We recommend using a pistol loading rod, our #PL-7-54, and leaving this well fitted ramrod with the pistol. The ramrod passes through a brass pipe with raised rings and matching entry pipe. Two lock bolts secure the small Siler flintlock to the pistol. The brass sideplate has a dark patina finish.
The small Siler flintlock has a crisp action and a well hardened frizzen. When using our best 5/8" knapped gun flints, #FLINT-AMBER-5, the lock will throw a shower of sparks into the pan. The lock is finished with the same silvery-brown patina as the barrel. Fast ignition is assured by the stainless steel vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash. The single trigger is pinned to provide a smooth release of the lock.
