The .50 caliber octagon-to-round barrel is 31" in length. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel has Thompson Center's QLA (Quick Load Accurizer) feature. The QLA is a relief of the rifling, the first inch of the barrel has no rifling, allowing loads to be easily started and quickly loaded. The exterior blue finish has a few scattered handling marks from firing and cleaning. The rear sight is click adjustable for windage and elevation. The factory blued bead front sight is dovetailed directly behind the muzzle. The back of the bead has been painted white for better visibility. We recommend our .490" round ball, .015" patch, over a charge of 70 grains of GOEX FFg black powder.
Stocked in American black walnut, the wood has many handling marks throughout the entire stock. The stock is fitted with a factory installed steel buttplate. The triggerguard has a wide bow for the single trigger. Our top view shows the hooked breech and tang. The breech of the straight octagon barrel has a factory drilled and tapped filler screw positioned to accept a T/C factory scope mount base. The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
The bottom view shows the brown speckling on the triggerguard bow. A sling swivel stud is fitted in the toe of the buttstock. A stud is also installed on the rear ramrod pipe. No sling is included with this rifle. The Thompson Center wooden ramrod is fitted with blued steel tips that have 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The single lock bolt is retained in a blued steel escutcheon, to match the other blued steel furniture. No cheek is shaped on the Pennsylvania Hunter rifles.
The percussion lock is color case hardened, with factory engraving. It features a fly detent, for smooth lock action, and a powerful coil mainspring, for fast lock time. The breech is fitted with a stainless steel nipple for No. 11 percussion caps. The single trigger provides a smooth release of the lock.
