This is a very early production Kodiak Express double rifle manufactured for Trail Guns Armory by Davide Pedersoli & Co. circa 1976. Stocked in walnut, with checkered straight grip, the .50 caliber rifled barrels are factory 26" length, which is shorter than the current production guns. Locks are factory engraved, with bright finish in contrast to the factory browned barrel. The checkering on the stock is also hand cut vs the embossed checkering on later guns. The 13-1/2" and 14-1/4" length of pull should fit todays average shooter. This double rifle weighs 10 pounds and is fitted with sling swivels for your 1" leather sling.
The .50 caliber double rifle has polished and browned 26" barrels, 27" including breech plug. The bores are rifled with a slow twist for a round ball and both bores have been well maintained. The elevated front sight ramp is mounted to the rib, fitted with a steel bead sight. A two leaf express sight is mounted 4" ahead of the breech. This is the earliest variation of rear sight found on these Pedersoli rifles and does not have the independent windage adjustable sights found on the current versions. The browning is in very good condition with a few small handling marks. The right barrel is marked Trail Guns Armory Houston, Texas and the left is marked Kodiak .50 cal.
The stock is checkered at the wrist and the forend for a secure grip. The checkering is hand cut and does have some small imperfections. The browned steel buttplate is wide and flat to spread the recoil from full loads. The stock is fitted with a engraved and browned triggerguard, the interior of the bow was factory polished bright. A single wedge key retains the barrel. The wedge key allows you to quickly dismount the hooked breech for easy cleaning, without risk of wetting the stock. The long tang is engraved and polished bright.
The rear sling swivel stud is securely mounted in the buttstock, while the forward swivel is mounted to the middle ramrod pipe. A oval initial plate is mounted above the rear swivel stud. The trigger plate is factory engraved. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The walnut buttstock is shaped with a large oval cheek piece, the cheek does have a hard knot that was factory finished into it. The buttstock has a few small handling marks, and scattered pressure dents from use.
The Pedersoli Express Rifle bar locks are finished bright with blued steel screws. The locks are decorated with an Kodiak bear scene on both sides. The breech is fitted with new 1/4-28 hardened steel nipples for No. 11 CCI percussion caps.
Used, this rifle has been well maintained with bright bores. It has a few scattered handling marks, and the bright finished locks have a few small brown speckles. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
