The 9-3/8" straight octagon barrel has been draw filed smooth and finished to a blue with a gray undertone. The .50 caliber bore is mirror bright, cut rifled with seven lands and grooves with a fast twist ideal for a patched round ball. The bore is bright in as-new condition. The barrel is fitted with a small nickel silver blade front sight and dovetailed with a rear sight.
The walnut stock is stained brown with a reddish undertone and finished to a satin sheen. Viewed from above the breech end of the barrel is fitted with a flared tang. A single tang bolt is threaded into the trigger plate. The stock is shaped with a slender grip fitted with a brass buttcap. The triggerguard is brass and securely mounted with a blued steel screw in the rear and pin up front. All of the brass furniture has been burnished bright and will acquire a natural patina with use and handling. Two lock bolts secure the flint lock. The two brass sideplates are fitted flush with the side panel. The ramrod has a flared brass loading tip. The ramrod does not have a threaded tip to allow for cleaning or loading accessories. We recommend using a pistol loading rod, our #PL-6-50, to service this pistol.
The L&R flintlock is a late 18th century style lock, with a pointed tail on the lock plate. A decorative molding has been filed across the lock plate ahead of the tail. The flat faced plate features chamfered edges. The plate is made with an integral pan and a bridle arm to support the frizzen pivot screw. The hand made trigger is pinned to provide a smooth release. The lock is positioned above the center line of the barrel, which puts the vent liner position vertically at the mid point of the pan. A vent liner brings the main powder charge very close to the center of your priming flash. Study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
