The .36 caliber 27" long barrel is fitted with a patridge style front sight. The factory rear sight has a square notch and is windage and elevation adjustable. The bore of the barrel is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. We recommend our #BALL-350 Hornady pure lead .350" round ball, #OX-15-30-W Ox Yoke .015" lubed patch, and 35-50 grains of black powder for best accuracy. Use a CCI No. 11 percussion cap on the nipple. If hunting bigger game, or in thick brush, try our .36 caliber Maxi-Balls. Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt.
The black walnut stock has straight grain and the brass furniture has darkened to a mellow patina from long storage. The stock has many handling marks and dings from heavy field use. The buttplate has a modest curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. The brass toeplate is mounted with brass screws. The brass triggerguard has a mellow patina from use. The forend of the stock is fitted with a brass forend cap. This rifle is fitted with a brown synthetic ramrod with a brass loading tip and 10-32 threaded tip for cleaning accessories. A squared cheek piece is factory carved on this T/C Seneca rifle.
The barrel is fitted with a hooked breech and tang. The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
The color case hardened lock has the factory engraved percussion hammer with flat lock plate. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. The breech is fitted with a 12-28 threaded stainless steel nipple for No. 11 percussion caps. Triggers are double lever double set triggers, factory designed to allow firing the rifle from either trigger, cocking the lock or setting the trigger in any sequence.
