This Thompson Center Hawken Cougar Rifle is used with handling marks on the stock and barrel. The rifle is stocked in figured American walnut and the barrel has been blued while the stainless steel furniture and lock plate are finished to a matte tone. With an overall weight of 8 pounds and a trigger reach of 14", this rifle is perfectly suited for today's average to larger size shooters.
The heart of the rifle is the T/C .50 caliber barrel. Measuring 28" in length the straight 15/16" octagon barrel has been blued and has factory Thompson Center bead front sight and adjustable rear sight. The bore is bright. The barrel blue has a small amount of edge wear ahead of the rear sight.
Stocked in a nice piece of figured American black walnut. The buttstock is inlaid with a large Hawken - Cougar inlay. This used rifle does have scattered handling marks on the forearm and side panel. The top view shows the hooked breech, which allows the barrel to be easily dismounted. Before dismounting the barrel, withdraw the ramrod. Remove the single wedge key located forward and below the barrel, put the lock into the half-cock position and lift the barrel out for cleaning. From below, the stainless steel triggerguard can be seen. Two screws hold the guard in position. Note, that no toeplate has been installed on the rifle, leaving that portion of the stock unprotected. A stainless steel sling swivel stud was factory installed to the buttstock. A matching ramrod pipe with swivel lug mounts the forward swivel. A sling is not included. A washer style escutcheon plate surrounds the single bolt. Further back on the rifle the standard beaver tail cheek can be seen, standard issue on T/C rifles.
Ignition for the rifle is provided by this large T/C percussion lock. The lock has the factory engraving found on most Thompson Center locks. Below the lock a set of double lever, double set triggers has been installed. Properly tuned and adjusted the triggers can be used set or unset.
Even with the scattered marks this is a lovely example of T/Cs product. If you are in the marked for a T/C Hawken then consider this nice piece today! This American made rifle is a good value.
