The Green Mountain barrel is .50 caliber, 1" octagon, 32" length. The bore is cut rifled with a 1 in 66" rate of twist to shoot a patched round ball. The front sight is a T/C patridge blade sight. The rear sight a T/C factory sight with the square notch for the patridge blade. The sight is screw adjustable for elevation, and screw adjustable for windage. In excellent condition, the bore is bright and clean, with crisp rifling grooves. We recommend our .490" round ball, .015" patch, over a charge of 70 grains of FFg black powder.
The front view shows the figured American black walnut stock. The stock appears to be as-new. The original rubber recoil pad has been replaced with a pachmayr decelerator rubber recoil pad. The toe of the stock has a sling swivel stud for quick disconnect swivels, the matching swivel post mounted to rear ramrod pipe. The wide trigger bow has ample room for the double lever, double set triggers. The brown synthetic ramrod is fitted with blued steel tips threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories.
Our top view shows the hooked breech that allows the barrel to be dismounted for cleaning. To dismount the barrel, place the lock at half cock, withdraw the ramrod, remove the single wedge key located forward and below the barrel. Use a small brass drift, such as our #TOOL-KEY-B. Once the key is removed, lift the barrel from the muzzle to unhook the breech from the tang. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. Notice the bright rainbow of mottled colors. Correctly adjusted, you may cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. Turn the tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension. Or turn it fully inboard, to disable the set trigger feature, when hunting in very cold climates, where a numb finger might release the light set trigger too early. When training youngsters, we prefer to start with the set trigger disabled.
This is a very nice example of a Thompson Center Renegade rifle with figured walnut and a .50 caliber Green Mountain IBS round ball barrel fitted.
