A used 1858 Remington New Model Army revolver with brass frame sold as a kit by Connecticut Valley Arms. This used percussion revolver has a brass frame, triggerguard and backstrap with walnut grips. Semi functional, we note that occasionally the cylinder will not advance, then will advance correctly if reccocked. The revolver has a few gaps and the grips are not well fitted. The revolver has a well aged patina.
The 8" octagon barrel is fitted with a post blade front sight. The notch in the center of the frame serves as the rear sight. The top of the barrel is stamped Connecticut Valley Arms, and it is slightly tipped down. The bottom of the barrel is stamped A.S.M. Black Powder Only Made in Italy. The brass frame has a CVA stamp on the lower edge. The traditional brass triggerguard holds the wide, comfortable trigger. The triggerguard has a visible gap between it and the frame.
The cylinder has the Remington safety notches cut between each nipple recess. Pull the hammer to half-cock, turn the cylinder to align the safety notch with the hammer nose, and set the hammer into the notch. You can safely carry this revolver with all six chambers loaded, if you rest the hammer in a safety notch. The cylinder has a drag line from the latch and one of the cylinders has a scar from the hammer being dropped when it was not aligned with the nipple. The nipples are a 6-.75mm thread and we recommend our nipple PIR-EI as replacements.
We recommend 15 grains of GOEX FFFg powder, and a .454" round ball, for best accuracy and best compression. However, an oversize ball tends to shear lead at each chamber mouth, changing the size and bullet weight, a problem. This revolver has slightly chamfered chamber mouths. If your revolver shaves lead, slightly polish each chamber mouth with fine emery and a marble, until the ball seats fully, compressing the lead instead of shearing it.
Cover each ball with a small amount of our #LUBE-SPG bullet lubricant grease. Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the cylinder, and wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin. If you continue to load and fire a badly fouled revolver, the effort needed to cock and fire the gun will become greater, causing the small internal hand, spring, and cylinder latch to become worn and slightly damaged. Continued abuse will cause the cylinder and latch to become out-of-time.
This used percussion revolver has a well aged appearance. Assembled from a kit offered by C.V.A., it is not highly finished. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
