This scrimshawed powder horn is finished with a warm brown patina on the body and a dark tip. The tip has raised rings to secure a strap, and paneled transitions to engrailed border on the horn body. The horn measures 13-1/4" around the outside curve from the tip to the end of the wood base. The iron staple adds about 1/2" to the overall length. Small wood and iron pegs secure the base to the horn. A turned wooden stopper is fitted and secured with a woven lanyard. The horn is scrimshaw engraved with a map of New York , Albany and the Hudson River Valley with forts and other points of interest.
