The French fusil de chasse (light gun for the hunt) is plainer than fancy decorated trade guns. Lighter than infantry muskets, they were the choice of civilians, French Marines, and clever Indians, when available.
This buttplate if patterned from a original Tulle fusil de chasse, circa 1727, in our collection. The comb has a long bulbous shape similar to a French pulverin powder horn spout. Wax cast brass, made in the U.S.A.
Overall length 4-13/16", width 1-15/16", comb 3-3/8".
All sizes are nominal. Please verify with description for more information.
