This is a foreign copy of a Third Model Smith & Wesson revolver that is nickel plated with a 5" barrel and black hard rubber grips. It was not uncommon in the early 20th century to encounter foreign made copies of the S&W top-break revolvers, often made in Belgian or Spain. This copy was made in Spain by Trocala Arazabal y Cia and is marked with a TAC logo on the frame. This pistol qualifies as a modern firearm and must ship to an FFL dealer. The cylinder is chambered for six (6) of the .44 S&W Russian cartridges. The bore is dark and pitted on this example and the extractor does not lift the cartridges. The nickel plating has worn around the grip, and this revolver has brown speckling in the nickel plating throughout. The trigger, triggerguard, and hammer were once color case hardened, but have since aged to a dull gray with speckled brown patina. The black hard rubber grips have a stylized TAC logo near the top. The grips are complete, with a few minor scuff marks. A lanyard ring is attached to the bottom of the grip frame.

This revolver is chambered in .44 S&W Russian and has a 5" barrel. The bore is dark with pitting running throughout. The nickel plating has scattered brown speckling on the barrel. The rounded front sight is pinned in the top rib. The top rib of the barrel is crisply marked FOR SMITH & WESSON / AMERICAN CARTRIDGES in two lines, however this revolver is chambered for the .44 S&W Russian cartridge, not the .44 S&W American heel based cartridge. The right side of the frame is stamped with the TAC Trade Mark logo near the grip. The serial number 173 is stamped on the frame under the grip and on the front of the cylinder.

The action has some up and down play when closed. The extractor does not lift the cartridges, and we note it can be lifted out of the cylinder with ease, revealing it is not screwed in correctly. The revolver has a good trigger release in single action mode, and a firm trigger and smooth working action in double action mode. The nickel plated cylinder has a deep drag line and some larger dings in and around the flutes. It rotates freely and locks up tight when the hammer is cocked.
