The famous Philadelphia Derringer pistol was designed by Henry Deringer and produced from 1852 to 1868. Other companies producing similar pistols called them derringers (note the double-r). This type of small pocket pistol became infamous after John Wilkes Booth used one to assassinate president Abraham Lincoln.
The .45 caliber barrel is 2-1/2" long. The bore is rifled with six shallow lands and grooves. The bore is bright and appears as-new. The barrel is finished to a plumb brown . The quarter flat at the breech is marked with the manufacturers markings and Italian proof marks. The barrel is dovetailed with a brass blade front sight. The rear sight is dovetailed to the tang to provide the maximum available sight radius.
The back action percussion lock is color case hardened and decorated with engraved foliage designs and stamped Deringer Philadelphia. The breech is fitted with the factory steel nipple with 6-.75mm threads. We recommend our #NW-130 nipple wrench to remove this revolver style nipple due to the tight clearance around the breech. We recommend our nipple #PIR-ES should you ever need a replacement.
