This Pietta manufactured 1861 Colt Army Revolver features a short 3" barrel and with checkered bird's head walnut grip. This configuration very similar to what was called a "avenging angel" after Porter Rockwell "the Destroying Angel of Mormondom". During his lifetime, June 28, 1813, or June 25, 1815 to June 9, 1878, he was a famous and controversial figure of the American West.

The .36 caliber barrel is 3". The short barrel does not allow for a traditional loading lever, use either a loading stand or a plunger style loading rod. This used revolver does not have the factory plunger loading rod. This revolver is used with some marks on the cylinder from the latch. The steel frame, and hammer are color case hardened. The cylinder is a half flute design. The triggerguard and backstrap are blued steel. We recommend that you charge the cylinder with about 15 grains of GOEX FFFg powder, set a pure lead .375" round ball on the cylinder, and press the ball into position with a brass loading tool (not included). Seal the cylinder with grease, and prime with No. 11 caps.

Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the wedge, barrel, and cylinder. Wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin.
