1861 Navy Revolver,
.36 caliber, 7-1/2" barrel,
silver plated triggerguard, unfired with box,
COLT brand - Second Generation

Known as the COLT Model 1861 Navy revolver, this revolver is beautifully finished, with a blued tapered round barrel, factory engraved cylinder, color case hardened frame, silver plated brass back-strap and triggerguard, reddish brown walnut grips, and color case hardened loading lever. It is in unfired condition. Not to be confused with the later Signature Series, this is the earlier production, known as the Colt Second Generation. The second generation black COLT factory carton, foam lined, and original paperwork and hang tag are included. We never recommend storing these in the factory box in humid areas. The foam lined carton can retain moisture against the finish.
The pistol is marked ~ ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY ~ on the top of the 7-1/2" round barrel. A silver blade front sight is mounted near the muzzle. A notch in the hammer, serves as a rear sight to maximize the sight radius. The silver plating of the triggerguard and backstrap has become slightly tarnished, from long storage in the factory carton. Our bottom view shows the color case hardened loading lever. The frame is stamped Colt's Patent.
The factory recommends .375" round balls, and each chamber will hold 30 grains of FFFg powder. We recommend 21 grains of GOEX FFFg powder, and a .375" round ball, for best accuracy and best compression. Cover each ball with a small amount of our #LUBE-SPG bullet lubricant grease. Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the wedge, barrel, and cylinder. Wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin. If you continue to load and fire a badly fouled revolver, the effort needed to cock and fire the gun will become greater, causing the small internal hand, spring, and cylinder latch to become worn and slightly damaged. Continued abuse will cause the cylinder and latch to become out-of-time. Simple cleaning and maintenance will prevent problems. Prized by collectors, this pistol was made to be a precision shooter. We can supply a correct Colt style flask, balls, mold, and everything you need for this percussion revolver.
A very nice unfired Colt brand second generation revolver with factory carton, paperwork, and hang tag. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unspun, unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
