This 1862 style Richmond rifled musket was manufactured by Armi Sport of Italy. Many variations of the Richmond rifle muskets were built and used during the American Civil War, for detailed information on the muskets and the armory that produced them we recommend the book C.S. Armory Richmond: A History of the Confederate States Armory, Richmond, Virginia.
The gun is stocked in walnut and trimmed in iron and brass furniture as was true of the original guns by 1862. Made for today's average size shooter and reenactor, the musket has a trigger reach of 13-1/2" and weighs in at 10.2 pounds. This musket has a few small handling marks but is in overall appears to be in great condition.
The .58 caliber 40" barrel is finished armoury bright. The bore is rifle with three wide lands and grooves. . Finished with octagon flats at the very rear, the barrel has been marked '1862' on the top flat while the left hand flat is marked with a V / P eagles head. The barrel also bears factory Armi Sporty markings and Italian proof marks required for export. A three leaf rear sight has been installed just forward of the breech, incremented out to 500 yard. The front sight is a military style.
Stocked in walnut the gun is built on the Model 1855 style stock. In good condition the stock has one larger dent on the forearm 13" behind the muzzle on the right hand side. The furniture is polished bright, which was typical for a martial arm of that period. The barrel is retained by three polished steel bands which are removed using release springs. The middle band has a sling swivel. The rear swivel is attached to the trigger guard. The rifle features a brass nose cap to protect the end grain of the stock. The ramrod is shaped with a flared tulip tip and has male 5-.8mm threads on the opposite end. Two lock bolts pass through a pair of steel washer escutcheons to engage the lock on the opposite side.
Ignition for the musket is provided by this low hump Richmond-style lock. Marked ''1862' on the tail, the lock is also marked 'C.S. / RICHMOND. VA.' on the forward portion below the nipple bolster. The lock has been polished to match the barrel and furniture, has strong springs and a smooth action.
Neatly made to the specifications of the 1862 Richmond rifle muskets, this used rifled replica is a very good condition. It will make an excellent addition to your Confederate arms, or Civil War arms collection. Made by Armi Sport of Italy. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted.
