The .50 caliber barrel measures 31" from the muzzle to the snail bolster of the hooked breech plug. The polished muzzle has started to turn a speckled brown. The bore is clean, with crisp, strong rifling. The six-groove barrel has equal lands and grooves with a slow twist for patched round balls. Order our #Ball-490 balls and #OX-15-50-W patches. A tall nickel silver blade front sight is fitted to the front dovetail. The factory rear sight has been replaced with a Lyman folding rear sight with elevation adjustment. The sight is dovetailed 6" ahead of the breech.
The buttstock is fitted with a blued steel buttplate with a modest curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. A color case-hardened patchbox is fitted with blued steel screws. The Philadelphia-style trigger guard has ample room for the double set triggers. The barrel keys are mounted through decorative color case-hardened escutcheon plates mounted with blued steel screws. All the mounting screws have the slots neatly aligned with the barrel. The top view shows the long tang of the hooked breech, which strengthens the wrist. Our bottom view shows the color case-hardened iron toe plate, with an elongated finial, to complement the other iron hardware. The Philadelphia-style trigger guard is finished in a dark blue. The ramrod entry pipe and forend cap are color case hardened. The rifle is fitted with a 3/8" diameter ramrod with nickel silver tips threaded 10-32 at the rear. The stock is shaped with an oval cheekpiece. The side panel is inlaid with a fancy color case-hardened iron sideplate.
The color case-hardened back action lock has a strong mainspring to provide fast lock time and positive ignition. The snail-shaped bolster is fitted with a 1/4-28 steel nipple for a No. 11 percussion cap. The double-lever double-set triggers can be fired from the set or unset position. We note when unset the front trigger requires a very firm pull. You may cock the lock or set the triggers in any order. Adjust the screw between the two triggers, inboard to reduce set trigger release pressure, or outboard to require a stronger pressure. They are currently set as light as we would recommend.
