Stocked in walnut, this Kentucky-style flint rifle is trimmed in brass and fitted with a patchbox. All of the brass is finished bright. Manufactured by Davide Pedersoli of Italy, this rifle is used with a a bright well maintained bore that is ready to shoot. Trigger reach is 13-1/4" to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is 6.8 pounds.
The 35-1/2" long, 7/8" octagon barrel is factory polished and blued. The .45 caliber bore is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist for a tightly patched round ball. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel has a browned steel blade front sight dovetailed 1-1/4" behind the muzzle, and a flat top rear sight dovetailed 7-3/4" ahead of the breech. The left oblique flat is stamped .45 cal. near the breech.
Stocked in walnut the stock displays some scattered handling marks from use. The stock has a slender brass buttplate in late 18th to early 19th century style. A brass patchbox with cam over center door is fitted. The brass toe plate is 4" long and retained by two domed, blued steel screws. The triggerguard is mounted with blued steel screws. The ramrod pipes are paneled with raised rings on the ends. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. A brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the forearm. The stock has no cheek, and the lock is retained by two lock bolts with a Kentucky-style brass side plate. The buttstock is inlaid with two brass bird inlays.
The flint lock has mottled color case hardened blues, grays, and purples. Used, the frizzen on the lock shows typical wear. The lock sparks well when combined with a 5/8 by 3/4" knapped flint. The trigger is pinned high for best leverage. This trigger has a smooth easy release. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. This vent is easily removed with a hex wrench. We stock the spare #THL-DP vent liner for Davide Pedersoli rifles and pistols, should you ever need a replacement.
