This flintlock longrifle, by Davide Pedersoli of Italy, has been recreated in the Kentucky longrifle style. Stocked in walnut, the rifle is trimmed entirely in brass furniture, which has mellowed to an aged patina from long storage. Assembled from a kit, brass inlays and a small amount of carving were added to decorate the stock. The color case hardened flintlock is mated to double lever double set triggers and a straight octagon barrel. Trigger reach on the rifle is 13-3/8" and the overall weight is 8.8 pounds, making it well suited for today's average man size shooter.

The .50 caliber by 41-1/2" straight octagon barrel has been browned with a copper tone to blend with the stock, while standing in contrast to the color case hardened lock. The .50 caliber bore is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist for a tightly patched round ball. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Order our #BALL-490 round balls, and #OX-10-50-W lubed patches. Seat the ball and lubricated patch into the muzzle, using our #ST-6 ball starter. The polished bright iron blade front sight is dovetailed 2" behind the muzzle. The full buckhorn rear sight is dovetailed 9-1/2" ahead of the breech. The factory information is stamped on the left oblique flat near the breech.

The walnut stock is stained to a medium brown with satin sheen and nicely contrasts the brass furniture and color case hardened flintlock. This rifle has a few small handling marks. All of the brass has aged to a mellow patina from age. The brass patchbox is correctly mounted using steel screws, as original. A line of incised carving runs along the bottom of the buttstock before terminating at the rear of the triggerguard. Our bottom view reveals the brass toeplate and triggerguard of the rifle. Held in position by two screws, the toeplate has been fit to protect the toe against damage during the loading and cleaning process. Ahead the triggerguard is retained by two screws as well. Brass inlays surround both ends of the lock panels, which feature raised carving. A line of incised carving runs along the ramrod channel and terminates at the brass muzzle cap. The ramrod is held in place by two forward and one entry ramrod pipe. The factory ramrod has 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. A brass muzzle cap has also been installed on the gun to protect the end grain of the wood below the muzzle. The two lock bolts pass through a large brass sideplate inlet flush with the stock. Note that no cheek has been formed on the rifle; instead a brass hunter's star is inlaid in the center of the buttstock. A small amount of raise and incised scroll carving decorates the left side of the buttstock.

The flint lock is color case hardened in mottled colors. This lock has a strong mainspring and sparks very well. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers, in any sequence. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release in the set position. The set trigger allows for a very light trigger release, ideal for match shooting. Ignition is aided by the steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. This vent is slotted to allow easy removal. We stock the spare vent, and we can supply a threaded flush nipple and tubing kit, to allow hot water flush cleaning this rifle without spilling water on the stock.
