The 35-1/2" long, 7/8" octagon barrel has a silvery-brown patina finish. The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel has a tall blued iron blade front sight dovetailed 2" behind the muzzle and a flat top rear sight is dovetailed 7-3/4" ahead of the breech. The left oblique flat is stamped "Black Powder Only—Italy/24 Pedersoli—cal. 50" along with various proof marks and the serial number near the breech.
Stocked in walnut, the stock has a tiger stripe finish. Using aquafortis, the dark stripes resemble the faux striping found on antique H.E. Leman trade rifles. Assembled from a kit, there is extra wood throughout the stock and the wood stands proud of the metal is most areas. The router lines from the factory around the lock panels were not sanded and blended into the stock. The buttstock has a slender brass buttplate in late 18th- to early 19th-century style that is secured with Phillip's head screws. All of the brass on this rifle has aged to a mellow patina from use. The brass patchbox is also mounted with Phillip's screws. The door opens to reveal a deep cavity for storing extra flints and shooting supplies. The brass toe plate is 4" long and is retained by two Phillip's head screws. The trigger guard is mounted with two slotted blued steel screws. The brass ramrod pipes are round with raised rings on the ends. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The ramrod has the same tiger stripe finish as the stock. A brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the forearm. The stock has no cheek, and the lock is retained by two lock bolts surrounded by a simple brass sideplate inlet flush with the stock.
The flintlock has the same patina finish as the barrel. The frizzen on the lock shows typical wear from firing. The lock sparks well when combined with a 5/8 by 3/4" knapped flint, #FLINT-AMBER-5. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. We stock the spare #THL-DP vent liner for Davide Pedersoli rifles and pistols, should you ever need a replacement. The single trigger requires a firm pull to release the lock.
