This contemporary longrifle is a example of the modern school of longrifles. The .40 caliber longrifle is stocked in maple with raised carving and moldings along the forend. The brass furniture is finished to a high polish and has been fitted with a double throated cock and fitted to double lever double set triggers. Trigger reach is 12-1/2" to fit a smaller than average size shooter. Weight is 8.2 pounds.
The Green Mountain .40 caliber 36" barrel is 7/8" octagon. Rifled with eight equal lands and grooves with a 1 in 48" twist for a patched round ball. The bore is bright and appears to be as-new. Green Mountain Muzzle Loading Rifle Barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained.
The curly maple full stock has a smooth gloss finish. The lock panels and forearm at the ramrod entry pipe are decorated with raised French Fluer de Lys carving. A raised and incised molding extends along the forearm and terminates about 1" behind the muzzle of the barrel. No muzzle cap is fitted. . All of the brass furniture is burnished bright. The brass buttplate is mounted with steel screws and has a button release ahead of the heel. The patchbox has a Virginia influence and is mounted with brass screws, a contemporary feature. The rounded toe fades into the lock panels. The Golden Age style triggerguard is shaped with a slender grip rail and filed moldings. Three paneled ramrod pipes with ringed ends secure the ramrod to the rifle. The ramrod is fitted with a flared bone tip, it has no provisions for threaded accessories. The side panel is fitted with a large brass sideplate that fills the side panel in Germanic style. No cheek piece is shaped on the buttstock.
The large Siler flintlock has been fitted with a L&R double throated flint cock and the tail has been reshaped to a shorter, broader point. The flint cock has a small amount of play on the tumbler. The lock has been polished bright. Use our 3/4" knapped flints for best performance in this lock. Below the lock a set of R.E. Davis double lever, double set triggers are installed. The triggers are properly tuned to fire from the set, or unset position. Adjust the screw between the two triggers, inboard to reduce set trigger release pressure, our outboard to require a stronger pressure.
This contemporary longrifle has a blend of styles. The bore is bright. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
