This used Thompson Center RENEGADE .50 caliber flintlock rifle was factory finished. The walnut stock has a deep reddish tone with a semi-gloss finish. The stock has many handling marks in the finish, with the majority along the toe. The barrel and iron furniture are finished in a dark blue. The flintlock is color case hardened. This rifle is fitted with the square patridge sights which many shooters prefer to the bead sights fitted to later production rifles. Trigger reach is 13-3/4" to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is 8.6 pounds.
The .50 caliber barrel is a 1" octagon by 26" long. The .50 caliber bore is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist to provide reasonable accuracy with a patched round ball or a Thompson Center .50 caliber Maxi-ball. The bore is bright and clean. The bluing has typical wear at the breech and on areas that are frequently handled when carried.
The straight grain American black walnut stock was selected for strength. The buttplate is blued steel and is nearly flat to spread the felt recoil over a large area. The steel triggerguard is polished and blued with a wide bow for the double set triggers. This rifle is fitted with the factory 3/8" diameter wood ramrod with blued steel 10-32 threaded tips to accept loading and cleaning accessories . The hooked breech and stock have a large scratch across the upper lock panel. The hooked breech can be dismounted by removing the ramrod, putting the lock at half cock, and removing the wedge key. The hooked breech allows for easy cleaning with the barrel dismounted from the stock. The stock is shaped without a cheekpiece .
The color casehardened flintlock with factory cast-in engraving by Thompson Center works smoothly, with a strong mainspring and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. Notice the bright rainbow of mottled colors. We recommend our 5/8" knapped English flints for use with this lock. The rifle is fitted with a double lever double set trigger. The trigger is correctly adjusted; you may cock the lock or set the trigger in any sequence. The tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, can be turned inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension.
The stock displays many handling marks from use, but the bore is bright and has been well maintained. The lock sparks well. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
