This highly prized book is filled with photographs of collectable pre-Revolutionary War era American longrifles, and other fine early guns used in America.

Photography and research by Dr. George Shumway are well respected by antique gun collectors, and contemporary gun builders, who use this book as a resource guide.

This hard cover book is the larger 9 x 12" format, with 352 pages of large photographs and details about these scarce early American guns and their makers.

Edward Marshall's rifle is a well known early American longrifle. Several pages of photographs depict this nice specimen, possibly made by Andreas Albrecht, at his Christian's Spring, Pennsylvania gun shop.

Additional pages of views show details of Edward Marshall's rifle, including the muzzle, butt end of the buttplate, end of the sliding wooden patchbox, barrel markings, tang carving, sideplate, and triggerguard finials.

The odd shapes of the triggers are clearly shown. Close inspection reveals a small moulding around the engraved lock plate.

The early work of the famous Lancaster County gunmaker, Jacob Dickert, is shown in this volume.

Chapters include Germanic guns, French guns, English guns, American guns of unknown origin, Berks County & Town of Reading guns, Christian's Spring guns, Lehigh Valley guns, Bucks County guns, and Lancaster County style guns.

The T. W. Pistor Jaeger is a delight to view and study.
