Although the 1841 edition of the U.S. Ordnance Manual provides information on the equipment that was in use , it is evident that the patterns of equipment that it describes were not introduced until 1838 or 1839. This guide is intended to fill this gap by providing an overview of what we now know about the accoutrements that were issued to the infantryman, rifleman, and dragoon, principally in the 1830's.
