Kentucky Pistol
.62 caliber smoothbore, 10" octagon-to-round barrel,
brass trim, walnut stock, M&G lock, used
Slender from the buttcap up the grip, the grip flares out at the lock panels. The short straight tang breech plug tang is framed with a panel of bold raised carving. A tang bolt engages the triggerplate below. A single wedge key with oval escutcheon plates secures the front of the barrel. The bottom view of the pistol reveals a majority of the brass furniture on the gun. The grip buttcap, triggerguard and rod pipe have all been finished in the same manner, with an ever so slight burnished patina. All the furniture appears to be bedded with a dark brown epoxy. The ramrod pipes are epoxied directly to the stock with no pins. The ramrod has a brass jagged tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The brass sideplate of the gun is retained by two lock bolts that pass through the stock to engage the lock on the opposite side of the gun.
