This scrimshawed powder horn is finished with a cream body and a dark tip. The paneled tip has raised rings to secure a strap, and a border transition to the horn body. The horn measures 13" around the outside curve from the tip to the end of the wood base. The iron staple adds about 1/2" to the overall length. Small wood pegs secure the base to the horn. A turned wooden stopper is fitted. The horn is scrimshawed with the verse I shall fear / no evil / for thou art / with me in four lines. An appeal to heaven flag is scrimshawed on the opposite side above a rising sun. Scrimshawed floral vines surround the various scenes. A 3/4" wide adjustable brown leather strap is fitted to the horn with dark brass D rings. The leather strap measures 54" long with an additional 5" of adjustment.
