This replica 1851 Colt Navy Revolver has a polished brass frame, blued octagon barrel, walnut grips, and color case hardened loading lever. The walnut grips have been reshaped and we note the brass grip frame stands very proud of the wood. The brass is just starting to tarnish from long storage. This version of the 1851 Navy is in the .44 "Army" caliber, with a rebated cylinder. The 7-1/2" barrel is fitted with a bead front sight. A notch in the hammer serves as a rear sight to maximize sight radius. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot.

The factory recommends our #BALL-451 pure lead .451" round ball, but we strongly prefer the slightly larger #BALL-454 Hornady .454" round ball, which provides better compression, noticeably more power, and best accuracy. However, an oversize ball tends to shear lead at each chamber mouth, changing the size and bullet weight, a problem. This revolver has slightly chamfered chamber mouths. If your revolver shaves lead, slightly polish each chamber mouth with fine emery and a marble, until the ball seats fully, compressing the lead instead of shearing it.

Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the wedge, barrel, and cylinder. Wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin. If you continue to load and fire a badly fouled revolver, the effort needed to cock and fire the gun will become greater, causing the small internal hand, spring, and cylinder latch to become worn and slightly damaged. Continued use will cause the cylinder and latch to become out-of-time. Simple cleaning and maintenance will prevent problems! The cylinder is fitted with the factory blued steel nipples. These factory nipples can be small for American manufactured percussion caps. We recommend replacing the factory nipples with our #PIR-LS 6-.75 mm stainless steel nipples designed for CCI No. 11 percussion caps.
