This French holster pistol by builder Ken Brady is stocked in maple and trimmed in a combination of brass and nickel silver furniture with cast-in engraving. The Germanic style flintlock by the Rifle Shoppe is mated to a .50 caliber octagon-to-round barrel. This pistol is offered in new condition with a bright bore that is ready to shoot. We note the trigger can overpower the lock in the half-cock notch. This pistol will be of great interest to the French and Indian War or Revolutionary War reenactor. The pistol weighs 2.1 pounds.

From above the 9" octagon-to-round barrel can be seen. Finished to a silvery-gray, the barrel is octagon the first 3-1/4" with a single wedding band transition to round. The .50 caliber bore is cut rifled with six lands and radius bottom grooves. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. A nickel silver blade front sight is soldered behind the muzzle. A small flat top rear sight is mounted to the top of the tang to maximize sight radius. At the rear of the barrel the straight tang can be seen. A single tang bolt passes through the stock and engages the trigger plate below. Two small iron pins retain the barrel to the forearm and are surrounded by oval nickel silver inlays.

The maple stock has been stained a medium brown and was finished with a gloss varnish that was then rubbed back to produce the satin sheen now visible on the gun. Behind the tang the grip of the pistol drops quickly away from the level of the barrel. Raised carving surrounds the tang, and an engraved oval nickel silver inlay is found on the top of the grip. Our bottom view shows off the brass grip cap and nickel silver retainer, both with cast-in engraving. The long triggerguard and ramrod pipes are nickel silver. The bow and finial of the triggerguard feature a cast-in floral design. The pointed skirt of the ramrod entry pipe is also decorated with cast-in engraving. The wooden ramrod is fitted with a flared brass loading tip. We recommend our #PL-6-50 to service this pistol. The backside view of the gun shows the decorative nickel silver sideplate with cast-in engraving, and two lock bolts that pass through to engage the lock opposite, holding both lock and sideplate in position. Note the extension of the grip cap that runs up both sides of the grip, a common feature on military pistols of the time.

The Germanic style flintlock by the Rifle Shoppe is polished bright. The plate, cock, top jaw, and frizzen are all decorated with cast-in engraving. The lock has strong springs and should spark nicely, the frizzen only shows signs of having been sparked once or twice for testing. We note the trigger can overpower the lock in the half-cock notch. An Ampco vent liner is well positioned on the side of the barrel. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
