The 41-1/2" long, 7/8" octagon barrel is finished to a streaky brown. The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel has a tall browned iron blade front sight dovetailed 2" behind the muzzle and a step adjustable rear sight is dovetailed so it sits 7-3/4" ahead of the breech. The left oblique flat is stamped "Black Powder Only—Italy/24 Pedersoli—cal. 50" along with various proof marks and the serial number near the breech.
Stocked in walnut, the stock is finished to a light tan with satin sheen. Assembled from a kit, there is extra wood throughout the stock and the wood stands proud of the metal is most areas. The router lines from the factory around the lock panels were not sanded and blended into the stock. The buttstock has a slender brass buttplate in late 18th- to early 19th-century style that is secured with Phillip's head screws. All of the brass on this rifle has aged to a mellow patina from use. The brass toe plate is 4" long and retained by two Phillip's head screws. The trigger guard is mounted with two slotted blued steel screws. The brass ramrod pipes are round with raised rings on the ends. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. A brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the forearm. The stock has no cheek, and the lock is retained by two lock bolts surrounded by simple brass washer style side plates.
The flintlock has a fire blued finish. The frizzen on the lock shows typical wear from firing. The lock sparks well when combined with a 5/8 by 3/4" knapped flint. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock or set the triggers in any sequence. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release in the set position. The set trigger allows for a very light trigger release, ideal for match shooting. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. We stock the spare #THL-DP vent liner for Davide Pedersoli rifles and pistols, should you ever need a replacement.
