This Brown Bess carbine is very lightly used with some marks on the frizzen face from firing, The walnut stock does not have any serious marks from being carried or handled. All the brass furniture is still bright. The Grice 1762 marked flint lock has a case hardened finish, while the barrel is finished to a dark brown. Davide Pedersoli offers this shortened version of their popular Brown Bess musket and markets it as a Brown Bess Trade Gun. Weighing in at 7.6 pounds, the Bess has a trigger reach of 14-1/4" and is well suited for today's average size shooter.
This carbine includes these additional items:
The long baluster wrist extends from the toe, to the lock panels. The forend swells at the ramrod entry pipe, forming a bulbous grip. The walnut stock appears to be as-new. Our top view shows the comb extension of the brass buttplate, tapered comb of the walnut buttstock, and the shield shaped escutcheon plate inlay, behind the flared tang. Our bottom view shows the rounded toe with wide brass buttplate, and matching brass triggerguard. The triggerguard is fitted with a sling swivel and a matching swivel is mounted to the forearm. The swivels were added by the previous owner. The trumpet shaped brass ramrod pipes carry the military style iron ramrod, with flared tip. The brass furniture is bright. From the back of the musket the side panel is fitted with a brass serpent sideplate. Retained by two lock bolts, the sideplate has a fan tail behind the second bolt.
The big flint lock is marked GRICE – 1762 and bears the crowned cypher GR (Georgius Rex), a sign that this musket was originally made for English military service. The cock is fitted with a 1" English gun flint.
Very lightly used, this trade gun has been well maintained. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
