Stocked in black walnut, this .45 caliber Thompson Center Cherokee percussion rifle has a 13/16" octagon 27" barrel, and is light enough to serve as a boy's rifle or lady's rifle. Offered as used, this rifle has a few small handling marks on the stock. The blue and color case hardening are both in excellent condition. The brass furniture has a few small speckles developing from age. This example has the double set triggers installed instead of the single trigger. This example does not have the model name stameped on the barrel. Trigger reach is 14" to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is 6.4 pounds.
The .45 caliber barrel is fitted with a bead style front sight. The factory rear sight has a round notch for a bead and is windage and elevation adjustable. The bore of the barrel is bright. The exterior blue finish is in excellent condition. We recommend our #BALL-440 Hornady pure lead .440" round ball, #OX-15-40-D Ox Yoke .015" dry patch, #MINK OIL tallow lubricant, and 35-50 grains of #GOEX-FFFg black powder for best accuracy. Use a CCI #11 percussion cap on the nipple. If hunting bigger game, or in thick brush, try our .45 caliber Maxi-Balls. Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt.
The walnut stock is very straight grain and is factory finished to a satin sheen, the brass furniture was polished bright and has been aged to a mellow patina with some speckles on the cap box door. The stock has a few marks on the lower lock panel that wrap around to the side panel. The buttplate has a modest curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. The barrel is fitted with a hooked breech and tang. The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle. This rifle is fitted with a Thompson Center factory wooden ramrod with a brass loading tip and 10-32 threaded rear tip for cleaning accessories. A squared cheek piece is carved on this T/C Cherokee .45 caliber rifle. The single lock bolt passes through a simple brass tear drop style sideplate to engage the lock on the opposite side.
The color case hardened lock has strong colors and shows little use. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. The percussion breech with snail is fitted with the factory 12-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. Order our #PTC-S if you need a spare. Triggers are double lever double set triggers, factory designed to allow firing the rifle from either trigger, cocking the lock or setting the trigger in any sequence.
This is a very lightly used Thompson Center Cherokee in excellent condition. This little rifle will be a joy to shoot at the range or carry on your next small game hunt. Our customers like these well made American guns, for their reliable service, durable reputation, accuracy, and good value. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
