The .54 caliber barrel is 26" long by 1" wide. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. The barrel is mounted with the earlier style square "patridge" sights that many shooters prefer to the later bead sights. We recommend our #BALL-530 Hornady pure lead .530" round ball, #OX-15-50-W Ox Yoke .015" lubed patch, 70 grains of black powder, and a No. 11 percussion cap for best accuracy. If hunting big game, in thick brush, try our T/C Maxi Ball. Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation.
The blued steel buttplate is nearly flat to help spread the felt recoil over a large area. The black walnut stock has many dings and scratches in the finish from heavy field use. The toe of the buttstock and the rear ramrod pipe are fitted with sling swivel studs for quick detach swivels, to provide easy carrying when in the field. No sling is included. The wooden ramrod is fitted with blued steel ramrod tips. The hidden end is threaded 10-32 for accessories. No cheek piece is carved on the T/C Renegade. Not to be confused with the T/C Renegade Hunter, this is the deluxe version with double set triggers. The lock is retained by a single lock bolt with round, blued steel washer-style side plate.
The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. The color case colors are bright. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. Correctly adjusted, you may cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. Turn the tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension.
