The French fusil-de-chasse was originally made in France at the Tulle arsenal, or at Saint Etienne. The stock architecture and iron trim resemble those of the heavier French military muskets, but are lighter and slender. This Tulle fusil was made by Jackie Brown, and given a patina finish. The 20 gauge bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. Stocked in maple with iron trim, this gun features an L&R flint lock. The trigger reach is 13-1/8" to fit a today's average size shooter. Overall weight of the gun is 8.3 pounds.

The 20 gauge octagon-to-round barrel is 42" length. The octagon portion is 12", with a single wedding band transition to round. The .615" bore is bright and has been well maintained. A small iron turtle front sight is mounted 2" behind the muzzle. A tall flat top rear sight is dovetailed 9" ahead of the breech. We recommend our #BALL-600-X pure lead .600" round balls. The top flat is signed J. Brown behind the rear sight. The barrel is finished to a textured slivery brown speckled patina.

Stocked in maple, the stock has a hand finished appearance that compliments the look of the metal patina. The sweeping architecture of the French fusil buttstock is quite comfortable to shoot, despite the unusual appearance. The wide flat buttplate is an advantage, since it reduces the recoil you will feel when firing full loads. The buttplate, lock, triggerguard, sideplate, and ramrod pipes are made of iron finished to the same silvery brown patina as the barrel. The trigger guard is surfaced mounted and retained with two screws in the rear and one in the front. The wooden ramrod passes through two iron pipes and matching entry pipe with long pointed skirt. The ramrod is fitted with an iron tip threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. The iron sideplate is surface mounted to retain the two lock bolts.

This fusil is fitted with an L&R Queen Anne lock. This lock features a round faced cock and plate, in addition to rounded frizzen and pan surfaces. The frizzen face has a few marks from test sparking. This lock has a sturdy mainspring, and should spark very well. Be sure to order a dozen of our best 7/8" English gun flints, #FLINT-ENG-7. Trigger release is smooth and light, due to the high leverage trigger geometry. The direct drilled touch hole is centered and positioned correctly with the pan. The barrel is counter sunk around the touch hole to bring the heat from the flash closer to the main charge for faster ignition.

Offered in lightly used condition, this fusil is ready for the hunting woods or the range. With a warm patina finish, it will also look great hanging on the wall of your cabin.
