This antique bag comes with a powder horn, round ball mold, powder measure, and brass tin. The leather bag has dried and aged with cracking along the fold of the flap and along the back extending down from the strap. The body measures 9" wide by 7" tall with an additional 9" by 4-1/2" pocket sewn to the front of the bag. The bag is neatly stitched with a welted seam. The edge of the flap has 1" long fringe cut for decoration. The leather strap measures 1-1/4" wide and is 36" long. There is a reinforced spliced seam on the left side of the strap 8" from the bag. The strap is secured to the bag with one copper rivet on the left side with a piece of leather added for reenforcement. The right side of the strap is secured with two copper rivets. Original stitching holes can be seen around the two rivets on the right side of the strap. The back of the bag has large cracks extending down from the strap attachment points.
The antique powder horn measures 9" long, as measures around the outer curve. The body of the cow horn is has aged to an antique yellow patina. There is a small repaired hole on the back side of the horn. The 2-3/8" wide, turned wood butt plug is retained by small wooden pegs. An iron eye hook is screwed into the base, and a second hook is fitted in the top of the horn near the spout. The horn is retained to the bag with rope tied to the eye hooks, and run through holes poked through the strap and knotted on the back. The remains of a leather powder horn strap is still sewn to the right side of the strap. The tip of the turned pouring spout is chipped, and a wood stopper is fitted. A small brass powder measure is secured to the wood stopper with a braided cord, which extends back to the eye hook, preventing the stopper and measure from becoming lost.
A small handmade brass tin full of old grease is included with the bag. The brass has aged to a dark patina and the bottom of the tin has a large dent. An iron round ball mold is also included with the set. The round ball mold cavity measures approximately .350" diameter, and is 4-3/4" in overall length. The mold has aged to a speckled brown patina.
