This antique 1886 Springfield Trapdoor Carbine Front Sight Hood fits over the military blade sight to shade it. This sight hood is for the 1886 carbines that were experiments from altered rifles, reference The .45-70 Springfield by Poyer & Riesch. The hood is 1.48" tall and 0.88" wide - which is taller and wider than both the standard 1883 rifle and carbine sight hoods. The lower hole is 0.78" with a taper to fit the barrels that were altered from rifles, and is loose if fitted to a standard rifle or carbine. Originally blued it has aged to a gray patina.
