This book of photographs of longrifles by the gunsmiths of West Virginia begins with an biographical section, and several 1800 through 1840 period newspaper announcements advertising their business openings, moves, help wanted, and special sale offers.
Large photographs reveal that a variety of longrifle styles were made in West Virginia, mostly artistically decorated pieces, but also a few severely plain mountain rifles, including one picked up from the battlefield after October 7th, 1780, on King's Mountain.
Hard bound volume of 160 pages, in 8-1/2 x 11" format, with 103 pages of photography.
