This hefty percussion Jaeger rifle is stocked in walnut and trimmed in brass furniture. The rifle is fitted with straight octagon barrel, large Siler percussion lock, and single lever double set trigger. This rifle is used with some marks on the stock, and wear in the brown finish. The barrel is marked N. Kerry - 1995. Trigger reach is 13-1/4" and this rifle weights 10. 4 pounds.
The .54 caliber straight octagon barrel is 31-1/2" by 1-1/6" straight octagon. The bore is cut rifled with eight deep grooves and a slow twist for use with a patched round ball. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is fitted with a bead front sight and a Germanic flat top rear sight dovetailed 9" ahead of the breech.
The walnut stock has a warm brown tone. Well finished, the stock has a few small handling marks, from normal use. This rifle has classic Germanic Jaeger rifle architecture with the buttstock fitted with a wide, tall, nearly flat buttplate. The stock has a well defined step at the end of the wrist. The wrist is quite large and must have been intended for someone with a large hand. The brass triggerguard has a long open bow. The forend is fitted a square brass muzzle cap rather than a forend cap. Lock panels taper widest at the rear in early muzzleloading rifle fashion. The straight tang is neatly inlet into the top flat of the barrel and secured with a tang bolt and screw.
The brass triggerguard of the rifle has been pinned into position. The ramrod is held in place by three brass ramrod pipes, a very short entry, and two forward. The forward pipes are pinned and the left side appears to have solder on the side. The wooden rod has a brass tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The buttstock is shaped with a large oval cheekpiece. The sideplate is engaged by two lock bolts that pass through the stock to engage the lock on the opposite side.
Ignition for this Jaeger rifle is provided by this large Siler percussion lock. Finished to match the barrel the lock stands out neatly against the lighter background of the walnut stock. Properly tuned and assembled the lock has good internals and a hefty mainspring, ensuring quick and reliable lock times. The double set triggers have been altered to a single lever design, so they will only fire from the set position. The long Germanic style rear trigger combined with the triggerguard design gives the user only limited clearance to access that rear trigger.
This rifle has good metal to wood fit and the checkering is well done. The bore is bright and the large Siler percussion lock is very reliable. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
