This ingenious box lock pistol has a 7" barrel, rifled, in .45 caliber. Known as the Ethan Allen pistol, or Boot pistol, this design was popular during the 1849 Gold Rush. Features walnut grips with a steel frame with integral 3" octagon section which serves as a breech plug. The barrel is threaded and inserted. The tang sight extends to the rear, to maximize the sight radius, a popular idea with early percussion gunmakers in the New York and New England area. The rear sight has a screw adjustment stem, for elevation.
Rifled with equal lands and grooves, the .45 caliber bore is mostly bright with some scattered speckling visible. The box lock frame is finished to a dark brown. The barrel is marked Ethan Allen by Hoppe's.The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the frame. The wooden ramrod has a tarnished brass tip. The brass tip is slightly loose and should be pinned to the ramrod.
