This scrimshawed powder horn is finished with a warm brown patina on the body and dark brown tip. The tip has a raised end to secure a strap, and a engrailed border to the horn body. The horn measures 13" around the outside curve from the tip to the end of the wood base. The iron staple adds about 1/2" to the overall length. Small wood and iron pegs secure the base to the horn. A turned wooden stopper is fitted and secured with a woven lanyard. The horn is scrimshawed with a verse that reads, "What I Contain Will Go / Freely To Protect My Family / And Home From Evil on the right side, and the left side have a hunter chasing a buck under the sun. The horn also has a panel for the owner's name.
