This 1874 Sharps rifle is a reduced scale version assembled around a Chiappa action. This rifle is chambered for .22 Long Rifle with a barrel fitted to the action by Norman Johnson at High Plains Reboring and Barrel in North Dakota. The rifle is stocked in black walnut with a poured pewter forend cap and Hawken style crescent buttplate. The barrel is fitted with a globe front sight and Pedersoli vernier tang sight. Weighing in at 8 pounds the rifle has a trigger reach of 13-1/4" making it well suited for today's smaller to average size shooter. We have this rifle on display, ready for same day shipment on receipt of your funds and your favorite dealer's signed FFL copy. We must deliver to a Minnesota resident, or to your favorite licensed dealer in any other state.
This rifle includes (not pictured):
- One additional lever spring
- One additional extractor
- Two firing pins
The 27-1/2" barrel is tapered octagon. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle the bore is rifled with five lands and grooves with a 1 in 15" rate of twist. The barrel is finished to a dark brown with the left side quarter flat stamped 22 5 40. The front globe sight is designed to accept Lyman No. 17 inserts. No rear sight is fitted to the barrel. The globe front sight and tang sight maximize the sight radius. The tang sight is 5" tall with 2-1/2" of adjustment.
Stocked in straight grain walnut the wood has a few scattered handling marks, with the majority along the toe and some wear in the finish from handling. The buttstock has a very slender profile that gently tapers into the wrist and lock panels of this petite Sharps action. The buttplate is late style Hawken buttplate with a modest curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. The buttplate is finished with a heat blue to give it a color cased hardened appearance. The poured pewter forend cap has aged to a satin gray patina
The action is color case hardened and does display brown speckling as well as some wear from handling and cleaning. The double lever double set triggers are properly tuned to fire from the set, or unset position. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers in any order. Once set the front trigger only requires a light pull to fire the lock. One note, the triggerguards on these actions are very small and if you have very large hands it does not have much room to access the triggers.
This used rifle should be fun to shoot. The .22 caliber bore is bright and clean, combined with the tang sight it should be a very accurate rifle and very enjoyable to shoot. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund.
