This used 1860 Colt Army .44 caliber percussion revolver was made by Pietta in Italy. This revolver is in excellent used condition with a bright well maintained bore. The loading lever, steel frame, and hammer are color case hardened. The roll-engraved scene on the cylinder depicts a famous battle of sailing ships at sea. The triggerguard is polished brass, and the backstrap is blued steel. The walnut grips have a few light handling marks. This revolver has been fitted with stainless steel nipples.

The frame is notched, and this is the so-called four screw model which includes a surface mounted screw on each side of the frame. The butt is also notched to accept the military style carbine buttstock, sold elsewhere. The left and right sides of the barrel are marked with the black powder warning and factory information. A pointed brass blade front sight is mounted near the muzzle. A notch in the hammer, serves as a rear sight. The notch in the hammer is small, for those who prefer a fine sight picture. The cylinder is fitted with 6-.75mm stainless steel nipples for No. 11 percussion caps. The factory nipples are also included.

The factory recommends .451" round balls, and each chamber will hold 30 grains of FFFg powder. We recommend .454" balls, and 20 grains of GOEX FFFg powder, for best accuracy and best compression. Cover each ball with a small amount of our #LUBE-SPG bullet lubricant grease. Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the wedge, barrel, and cylinder. Wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin. If you continue to load and fire a badly fouled revolver, the effort needed to cock and fire the gun will become greater, causing the small internal hand, spring, and cylinder latch to become worn and slightly damaged. Continued abuse will cause the cylinder and latch to become out-of-time. Simple cleaning and maintenance will prevent problems.
