The 28" barrels are fitted with a small bead front sight near the muzzles in the center rib. The barrels are finished to a matte brown. The 12 gauge bores measure .725" near the muzzles and are both clean, bright, and ready to shoot. The center rib is marked Navy Arms Co. Ridgefield N.J. near the breach. The right barrel is marked FAB. ARMI FLLI. Pietta Gussago BS Italy and the left barrel is marked Black Powder Only - Made in Italy 12 GA. The breech plugs are color case hardened. The long color case hardened engraved tang of the shotgun is visible from above. Finished to match the locks and triggerplate, the tang is retained by two blued, and engraved, screws.
This double gun's European walnut stock has the original factory satin finish. The stock is closed grain European walnut, and will give a lifetime of good service. Note the small brass shield that has been placed in the toe of the stock to the rear of the triggerguard, a slight decoration. A few small dents or handling marks can be seen from normal use. The straight grip is checkered, and the walnut stock is fitted with a browned buttplate. This wide buttplate is nearly flat, comfortably with full loads. The triggerguard is browned to match the barrels and has just a hint of light engraving, adding contrast to the gun when compared to the trigger plate, which is color case hardened. No cheekpiece is carved, making this shotgun equally handy for right of left hand shooters.
The forend has a single key that retains the barrel. The key allows for quick disassembly for cleaning. Simply withdraw the ramrod, press out the key with firm thumb pressure, and lift the muzzle end, to dismount the barrels for easy cleaning. The wedge key is captured with a pin, to prevent loss while in the field, exactly like better original guns. The ramrod is fitted with a brass loading tip and the brass rear tip has a covered ball puller. The cover is slotted to allow for a cleaning patch. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-29-10 to service this shotgun.
Remove the two standard 1/4-28 nipples, using our #NW-120 nipple wrench, and immerse the breech end in a bucket of hot soapy water. Place a wet cleaning patch on the ramrod with jag tip. Push the air out, and draw the water in, as you pump the ramrod the full length of each barrel, a few times. Change the water, and the patch. When the patch comes out clean, you are ready to wipe the bores dry, using a patch wetted with WD-40 or other water displacing oil. Never insert a dry patch. If you used hot water, the warm barrels will dry instantly.
The Navy Arms shotgun locks are color case hardened and engraved with a floral pattern. Both locks are perfect inside, with strong springs, secure half-cock notches, and full cock notches that release smoothly with normal trigger finger pressure. Both triggers have a smooth release.
