This Kentucky pistol is stocked in curly maple that has been expertly carved. Neatly fitted, the engraved brass furniture has a hand burnished appearance that nicely compliments the tone of the stock. The .50 caliber octagon barrel is browned and the small Siler percussion lock is neatly hand engraved. Hand assembled by contemporary builder D. Blaisdell, this pistol is offered in excellent used condition with a bright well maintained bore.

The 10" straight octagon barrel is finished to a smooth plum brown. The mirror bright .50 caliber bore is cut rifled with seven lands and grooves with a fast twist appropriate for a patched round ball. The barrel is fitted with a nickel silver blade front sight set in a brass base dovetailed 1" behind the muzzle. The small flat top rear sight is dovetailed 1-3/4" ahead of the breech. The top of the barrel is inlaid with a silver plate that is signed D R Blaisdell. The top of the barrel is also engraved 4 "04". The breech end of the barrel is fitted with a flared thumbnail tang. The tang bolt is neatly fitted with the slot aligned with the barrel. The tang is surrounded with well executed raised carving. The lock panels correctly taper widest at the rear in early long gun fashion. The stock is shaped with graceful slender proportions and just wraps the barrel along the forend.

The grip is fitted with a nickel silver buttcap, which is neatly engraved with a floral pattern. The triggerguard is correctly mounted with a steel screw on the grip rail and pinned in the front. The bow of the triggerguard and front finial are decorated with engraving. Raised molding frames the ramrod entry pipe and runs along the ramrod channel. The brass ramrod pipe and matching entry pipe secure the wooden ramrod fitted with a brass tip. The tip is threaded to accept 8-32 cleaning and loading accessories. A brass muzzle cap is used to protect the end grain of the stock. The side panel is fitted with a long engraved brass sideplate. The domed lock bolts engage the lock on the opposite side.

Ignition is provided by a small Siler percussion lock that is shaped in the manner of a conversion from flintlock. The lock plate and hammer are finished to a silvery gray and are neatly engraved with a floral pattern. Tuned for best performance, this lock has fast time and will provide reliable ignition. The drum is well supported by the lock plate, and is fitted with a 1/4-28 stainless steel nipple. The single trigger is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear producing a crisp trigger pull.
