This percussion longrifle was constructed by Bob Cowie. This Lehigh Valley longrifle is interpreted after an original attributed to Jacob Dubbs. Stocked in curly maple, the gun is trimmed in brass furniture, and features a percussion conversion lock. The .40 caliber bore is bright and ready to shoot. Trigger reach is 14-1/4" and the weight is 10.1 pounds.

The 42" long .40 caliber straight octagon barrel is 7/8" wide by Green Mountain. The cut rifled barrel has eight equal lands and grooves with a slow twist for a tightly patched round ball. Green Mountain Muzzle Loading Rifle Barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained. The left oblique flat is marked with the Green Mountain logo and 40 CAL near the breech. The browned barrel is fitted with a flat top rear sight dovetailed 7-1/2" ahead of the breech and a silver blade front sight with copper base is dovetailed 2-1/2" behind the muzzle. The barrel is retained to the stock with three steel pins.

The curly maple stock is finished to a blond color with black highlights in low areas. The stock has a few handling and finishing marks. In our top view the long cast engraved comb of the buttplate can be seen. The wide brass buttplate is retained with two steel screws. The straight tang is retained with a single bolt engaging the trigger plate below. From below, the wide toeplate can be seen, along with the cast engraved brass triggerguard that has been pinned to the stock. No muzzle cap is fitted and the end of the forearm is rounded over before it stops 1/2" short of the muzzle. The 3/8" wooden ramrod is secured by three ramrod pipes, one entry and two forward. A brass tip has been fixed to the ramrod, threaded 8-32 it is ready to accept your shooting and cleaning accessories. The left view shows the rather blunt square cheekpiece carved into the buttstock. A cast engraved brass sideplate is fitted in the dominate side panel. Two large head lock bolts engage the lock on the opposite side.

Ignition for the gun is provided by a percussion conversion lock by Larry Zornes. This conversion lockplate shows the remains of the flint lock pan. The lock is browned to match the barrel and features a strong mainspring that functions as it should. A stainless steel musket nipple is fitted to the powder drum. The single trigger is pinned high to provide a smooth release.
