This .45 caliber percussion Gemmer style conversion Sharps Sporting rifle has a 30-1/2" octagon barrel with cleaning rod and forearm mounted with two wedge keys. The military style buttstock has a trigger reach of 13 7/8 inches, which should be comfortable for todays average shooter. The weight is 10.8 pounds. This breech loading gun uses loose powder and bullets, or paper cartridges, with musket caps. Thus, it is exempt from Federal Firearms License restrictions. We can ship it directly to you.

The tapered octagon Kelly barrel is 30-1/2" length, finished to a dark blue. The breech end of the barrel is stamped Gemmer St Louis, marked as individual letters. The front sight is a nickel silver blade with copper base. The Rocky Mountain style step adjustable rear sight is fitted 4-1/2" ahead of the breech. The .45 caliber bore is rifled with a 1 in 20" twist and is designed to shoot .458' diameter sized bullets. A bag of 30 bullets is included with the rifle. This breech loading gun is very easy to load. Simply insert the bullet into the chamber, add a charge of powder, close the breech, and place a musket cap on the nipple.

The straight grain walnut stock is fitted with a military style buttplate . We note a few small cosmetic gaps on the inletting around the tang, lock plate, and action. The forearm a classic Gemmer style with a pewter forend cap, two wedge keys with nickel silver escutcheon plates. The entry pipe is browned steel to accept the 3/8" diameter cleaning rod. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 8-32 threads for cleaning accessories. The lock and action are color case hardened in bright colors. The big side hammer strikes the 8-1.25mm threaded musket nipple. The thumb lever at the front of the action is retained by a spring loaded button. Depress the button and rotate the thumb lever, while withdrawing the lever, allowing the lever, breech block, and gas-check on the face of the breech block to be removed for easy cleaning. Pay careful attention to the position of the parts. It will re-assemble easily, if positioned correctly, but the proper location may not be immediately obvious. With practice, you can remove and reassemble the breech block with ease. The rifle is fitted with the military style single trigger.
