This unique Yorktown longrifle is a mix of traditional and modern finishes. The 39" long .54 caliber Green Mountain barrel has a modern cerakote gun finish. The large Siler flint lock features an engraved brass plate with color case hardened cock and pan. Stocked in curly maple, the stock has attractive figure running its entire length. This rifle was assembled by Cabin Creek Muzzleloaders. Trigger reach is 13-1/2", and weight is 8.5 pounds.

The .54 caliber Green Mountain barrel is 15/16" octagon by 39" long. The barrel is cut rifled with eight lands and grooves with a 1 in 70" twist for a tightly patched round ball. Green Mountain barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel exterior and flared tang of the breech plug have a modern cerakote gun finish applied in a bronze color. A blued flat top rear sight is dovetailed 12" ahead of the breech. A nickel silver blade front sight set in a brass base is dovetailed 2" behind the muzzle.

The curly maple stock has nice figure running its entire length. The stock is stained dark with golden undertones, and finished to a high gloss sheen. The stock has many handling marks and flaking in the finish. Viewed from the top, the five flats of the wide brass buttplate comb can be seen. All of the brass is polished bright on this rifle. The wrist is fitted with a silver inlay with the initials R.F. hand engraved. The brass patchbox is fitted without side panels on the door. The head and door have both been hand engraved with a simple floral design. The door is secured with a spring catch at the base. Press it upwards toward the heel to reveal a deep cut cavity for storing flints, jags, or other accessories.

This bottom view shows that no toe plate has been fitted on this rifle to protect this delicate area of the stock. The brass triggerguard, which is mounted with one pin in the front and a screw in the rear in early fashion. The brass ramrod pipes support the tapered 3/8" diameter ramrod fitted with a .54 caliber brass jag tip. We note the jagged tip extends past the muzzle by 1/2". We recommend our #RAMROD-C-44-10 to service this rifle. A brass muzzle cap has been installed to protect the end grain of the stock. The left side view shows the square cheek with an engraved nickel silver hunter's star in the center of the cheek. The flush mounted steel sideplate fills the side panel in Germanic fashion. The sideplate is neatly hand engraved and polished bright. Two domed lock bolts engage the lock on the opposite side. We note the forward hole was drill off-center and was enlarged to accept the lock bolt.

Ignition for the rifle is provided by a large Siler flint lock. Properly tuned and assembled the lock has a heavy set of springs that will ensure fast and reliable lock time. This lock features an engraved brass plate and engraved screw heads. The cock, top jaw, and pan are color case hardened. We recommend a 3/4" knapped English flint, for use with this lock. Fitted with a R.E. Davis double set trigger correctly tuned to fire from the set or unset position. This is a nice feature being quite versatile when using the gun for target or hunting.

Fast ignition is assured by the vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash. We note the vent liner is also finished with the same cerakote finish as the barrel.
